Calvin E. Stewart, Sr.

Mr. Calvin E. Stewart, Sr., age 69, of New Castle, DE, formerly of Middletown, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 14, 2012, at his home.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Stewart was born in Middletown on June 22, 1943, son of the late Gilbert Stewart, Sr. and Gertrude Ford Stewart.
In the late 1960s, he began his career working in the Healthways Salvage Yard in Odessa. Later, he established his own trucking company, Stewart Trucking, and was employed at the marine terminal. A gifted mechanic, he greatly enjoyed both trucks and trucking and was always at his happiest when repairing or tuning his truck.
Mr. Stewart was a devoted family man throughout his life and was much admired for always being there to help a friend.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Wayne E. “Taterbug” Stewart; brother, Gilbert “Buster” Stewart; and sisters, Caroline Delancey, Louise O’Neal, Hilda O’Neal, Betty Alston, Dorothy Hall, and Edna Hudson. He is survived by his beloved companion, Sandra Todd; sons, Calvin E. Stewart, Jr. and Wayne Todd; daughters, Marleen Atkins, Suzie Todd, and Lisa Todd; grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany, Douglas, Amanda, Shawna, Sandra, Joey, Nick, Nicole and Justin; sisters, Edith Sparks, Mary Faries, Thelma Stanton, Judy Collins, Linda Shelton, and Patricia McKinney; brothers, Charles, John, Larry, Eugene, and Robert Stewart; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and his special dog, Buster, who was his “Baby.”
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Delaware Hospice for all of their help and support during Mr. Stewart’s illness.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, September 18th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, September 19th, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
