Carmen Caesar DeAngelis

December 6, 1944 - August 8, 2021

Carmen Caesar DeAngelis, age 76, of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at home comforted by his loving wife and family.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on December 6, 1944, he was a son of the late Louis A. and Sadie Santamauro. Carmen proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Carmen graduated from the Philadelphia Police Academy in 1969 where he served most of his 22 years on the force in the K-9 unit with beloved canine partners, Duke and Sultan. During this time, he received multiple commendations for his civil service. Carmen also worked at Pacifico Valet for 25 years, initially as a part-time driver then as a full-time manager, until his retirement in 2012.

He enjoyed cooking and is remembered fondly for the elaborate Sunday breakfast menus he would serve when hosting his children and grandchildren. An avid trivia buff that tried to never miss an episode of Jeopardy!, he loved solving cryptogram word puzzles, playing poker and pinochle, reading spy novels, and watching anything Star Trek or James Bond.

In addition to his parents, Carmen was preceded in death by his nephew, Michael. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Linda DeAngelis; son, Christopher (Anne); daughter, Natalie Herring (Bryan); grandchildren, Dante, Tristan, Sabrina, and Ariana; siblings, Louis (Robin) and Annette Christina (Michael); and nephews, Michael (Colleen), Steven (Kelly), and Anthony.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 13, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church, 345 Bear Christiana Rd, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carmen’s memory to the Wounded Warrior project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675 or online by clicking here.
