Carmen Santiago Troche, age 89, of Severna Park, MD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2019.

Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, on July 20, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Salvador and Josefina Santiago. Carmen dedicated her life to raising and caring for her husband, her children, and her extended family.

Carmen was a loving woman who embodied strength, courage, and passion. Her sense of humor and love of life made her the kind of person others wanted to be around. She enjoyed cooking, caring for her plants, reading magazines, watching her novelas, and preparing for the holidays, especially Christmas. Even though she lost her hearing as an adult, she remained the life of the party until the very end, singing and dancing and celebrating life. She was the heart of her family, and will always be remembered as a strong woman and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

In addition to her parents, Carmen was preceded in death by her husband, Sixto Troche; her daughter, Nelly Maldonado; her son-in-law, Juan Maldonado; her sisters: Esther Santiago, Nilda Morales, and Adelida Santiago; and her brothers: Pablo Santiago; Néstor Santiago, and Salvador Santiago Jr.

She is survived by her sister, Rufina Santiago of the Bronx, NY; her children, Carmen Rivera (Jaime) of Yonkers, NY; Mirna Cameron (Darius) of Severna Park, MD; and Sixto R. Troche (Elizabeth) of Bear, DE; her grandchildren: John, Yesenia, Sixto Jr., Chereis, Taisha, Enid, Jaime, Nicole, Jacquelyn, Samantha, Meshal, Cassandra, Christopher, Michael, Tiffany, and Brenton; her great-grandchildren: Joshua, John, Anastacia, Isabella, Natalia, Gabriella, Maxwell, Blake, Serenity, Alexis, Arya, Shiana, Brandon, Mariya, Angelica, Elliot, Orion, Willow, Victoria, Aleah, Antonio, Elijah, Lorenzo, Junito, Noel, Jackson, Crosby, and Declan; and her great-great-grandchildren: Lily, Gabriel, and Nelly.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm on Thursday, November 7, 2019, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE 19711, where a funeral service will begin at 12:30 pm. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.
