Cecilia Marion “Celie” Viering, age 71, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on December 22, 1951, she was a daughter of the late Wentworth and Helen (Moore) Burnham. Celie worked as a technical secretary at the University of Delaware for 20 years until her retirement.

Celie could often be found tending to her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She was a talented cook who loved preparing delicious meals for her family. Celie was a gifted artist, creating many gorgeous crafts and jewelry. In her spare time, she enjoyed practicing Taekwondo. Always eager to learn something new, she taught herself how to shoot black powder rifles, and went on to win many medals and tournaments.

In addition to her parents, Celie was preceded in death by her siblings, Bill Burnham, Winnie Bayaska, and John Hrycek. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Laurence W. Viering III; daughter, Cecilia Marie Viering; stepson, Michael A. Viering; brother, Jim Burnham; niece, Linda Hamilton; and granddaughter, Savannah Viering.

All services will be held privately.
