Charles Alford, age 58, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
Born in North Carolina on February 6, 1966, he was the oldest of four sons of the late Shirley Temple Alford. Charles earned his high school diploma and completed some college courses, including more recently, Cyber Security classes.
Charles was interested in many industries, working in finance, credit, and collections. But he was an entrepreneur at heart, always thinking of ways to start a business.
Charles was a Mason and beloved brother of the Adelphic Union Lodge #14 in New York City, NY. He took great pride in being a steward, offering his service during lodge events. Charles loved his lodge as it provided a sanctuary where he could be among those with whom he had a deep and spiritual connection.
Charles enjoyed watching football and basketball, especially his favorite NY teams – The Giants and The Knicks. He also LOVED cigars, self-identifying as a cigar aficionado. He would pair a good cigar with his favorite whiskey to relax and unwind on the weekends.
To all who knew him, Charles was extremely charming and charismatic, striking up a conversation about current events with anyone who would listen. But, he also had a small circle of trusted friends he could always count on for advice and counsel.
Charles departed this life on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, in Newark, Delaware. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Erica Etienne-Alford, and their son, August Myles, the youngest of his six children; his eldest children, sons Devin and Tristen; and his daughters, Brittney, Mikeeya, and Sanaya. He is also survived by his beloved younger brothers, Jarred (Demetria), Jason (Paulette), and Cedric (Keneisha); his six grandchildren, Amelia, Avery, Mila, Jarred, Miyanni, and Cali; his cousin, Sara Allen; uncle, George Alford; along with his nieces, nephews, cousins, and other close family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley, and his grandparents, Bessie Alford and Junal Bowden.
All services will be held privately.
Charles was loved and will be deeply missed.
