Charles Edward Scott
January 28, 1950 - April 21, 2026
Charles Edward Scott, lovingly known to many as Eddie, passed away leaving behind a legacy of faith, devotion, and deep love for his family on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
Born on January 28, 1950, in Decota, West Virginia, Eddie was the son of Joretta Wilburn and Charles Junior Scott. At the age of 15, he moved to Delaware, where his life would take root and flourish. Eddie graduated from Christiana High School in Newark, Delaware, in 1968—a milestone year not only for his education, but also for his heart, as it was there he met the love of his life, Deborah Scott. Their love story spanned 57 beautiful years of marriage, marked by unwavering commitment, laughter, and a shared faith in Jesus that guided their lives.
Following high school, Eddie proudly served his country by joining the United States Army. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he served as a military police officer and paratrooper. His time in the service reflected his strength, courage, and dedication. After his military service, Eddie built a long and hardworking career as a truck driver, a profession he faithfully committed to for over 40 years. He worked for companies including Halby Chemical, Jones Motor, Red Star, and Overnight Transportation, which later became UPS Freight. He retired in 2012, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and perseverance.
Eddie was a proud and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie; his three daughters, Cathy Straub (Jim), Kimberly Pereira (Acacio), and Kristie Riess (Chris); and his cherished grandchildren, Calvin (Sarah), Rebecca (Stan), Zach, Connor (Jenna), Kylie (Tyler), Patrick, Matthew, Nathan, Peyton, Kash, Chase, Brooklyn, and Levi. He was also blessed with one great-granddaughter, Stella, who brought him great joy. He is also survived by his siblings Billy Wilburn, Brian Wilburn, Diane Mayle, Debbie Terrell, Denise Kane, Joey Scott, Don Scott, and Chris Scott. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Wayne Wilburn; his stepfather, William Wilburn; and his stepmother, Doris Scott.
Above all, Eddie was a man of deep and unwavering faith who loved Jesus wholeheartedly. Throughout the years, he faithfully served in a prayer ministry, lifting up the sick and those in need. He also poured into others as a Sunday school teacher and small group leader, always pointing people toward Christ with a servant’s heart. For the last two years, he attended Trinity Community Church, where he found joy in fellowship and connection, especially during his weekly lunches with his men’s group at Smiley’s—times he truly looked forward to.
Eddie’s life was also marked by an incredible gift of time and love. Over 20 years ago, he received a kidney transplant generously given by his loving nephew, Nathan Piccone. Because of this selfless act, Eddie was given many more years with his family—years filled with memories, milestones, and moments that will be cherished forever. His family holds deep gratitude for Nathan, as there are truly no words sufficient to thank him for such a precious and life-giving gift.
Eddie loved his family with his whole heart. He was a devoted husband who cherished Debbie, and a proud father to his girls. He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—hunting, fishing, target shooting, collecting firearms, and especially riding his motorcycle. He had a spirit that loved adventure, a heart that loved deeply, and a faith that never wavered.
Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he is now whole and at peace in the presence of his Savior. His life was a testament to love, faith, and dedication, and his legacy will live on in all who knew and loved him.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Trinity Community Church, 6580 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. A committal service will begin at 10 am on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the PKD Foundation in Eddie’s honor, P.O. Box 871847, Kansas City, MO 64187 or online by clicking here.

Dear Debbie and family.
I will always remember Eddie as a kind and loving man. He was such a gentleman and a giver of himself. I’ll never forget when he offered to cut down two huge Rose of Sharon bushes in front of my house. I was so stressed because I couldn’t afford the cost several landscapers were going to charge me to cut them down, but Eddie came to my rescue! He cut them down and refused to take any money for it.
Eddie always had me laughing with his humor and cheerful disposition. He was always such a gentleman and would help me get in and out of his truck, laughing all the time about it. (He reminded me of a big loveable teddy bear!)
Eddie was a devoted Christian and had such a love for his Father and his Lord Jesus Christ. He was a real doer of the Word and would help anyone in need. He would give of himself even when he wasn’t feeling well.
I know he is happy now in Heaven with Jesus, and I can only imagine he might even be cracking some jokes!
Eddie, I miss you so much and am looking forward to seeing you soon!

I am so sorry for your loss. Eddie was such a wonderful friend and brother in the Lord. His love and sense of humor will be missed for quite some time. I got to know Ed in a special way at our weekly lunch meetings at Smiley’s and we shared stories and laughed together quite a bit. I can just see the Apostle Paul thinking about Ed when he wrote in 1 Thessalonians “I give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father, knowing, beloved brethren, your election by God.
Debbie, Cherie and I will continue to pray for you and your family. May the God of all comfort fill you as you go forward.

Debbie and family,
I am sorry for your loss. Eddie was an amazing man. I am honored and will cherish my times with him at Trinity and Forged by Fire. He was always cracking jokes, loving, and knew exactly what to say to inspire a person going through a hard time. Anyone who met him knew he was a big follower of Christ! I miss his big smile and them bear hugs already! Debbie and family, you are in my prayers, and thoughts. May God wrap you in his loving embrace, offering comfort and peace knowing Eddie is walking in his new body healed with the Lord, still watching over you and providing from eternity.

My deepest sympathies to Deb, family and friends. I will certainly miss my friendly neighbor, Eddy, “The Big Guy”!! Anytime I needed a tool or help with a mechanical problem, all I had to do was walk across the street and ask for Eddy. With a big jolly smile he would tell me to go around back to his apartment/shed and use whatever tool I needed in addition to his mechanical knowledge. May the divine envelop Ed Scott in perpetual love, harmony and peace.

My deepest condolences to the family. I pray the Holy Spirit provides all you with peace and comfort during this difficult time in your life. Eddie was a great man, who I am forever grateful for using him to pour God’s word into me in my younger years. There was never a time when I couldn’t approach Eddie. Heaven gained another angel!
