Charles W. “Chuck” Horness

June 20, 1931 - July 1, 2021

Charles W. “Chuck” Horness, age 90, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021.

Born in Story County, IA on June 20, 1931, Chuck was a son of the late Haaken Augustine and Elizabeth Mae (Skeers) Horness. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Chuck worked as a radio shop technician at Bell Atlantic, retiring after 36 years of dedicated service. As an avid three leagues per week bowler for over 40 years, that one last strike always kept him from reaching his dream of a perfect 300. Although cutting back to one league in his later years, Chuck continued bowling well into his 80s. He was a member of St. John’s Lodge No. 2 A.F. and A.M. in New Castle. Chuck will be remembered for his generous spirit.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Winifred June (Reynolds) Horness; second wife, Delores M. (Plato) Horness; and siblings, Helen Uballe, Hazel Jessen, Maxine Stratton, and Virgil Horness. Chuck is survived by his children, Christine D. Findlay (Dale) of Wilmington, Tia L. Clifton (David) of Bear and Robert P. Renzi (Karen) of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Andrew and Bryan Johnson and Ryan Clifton; great grandchildren, Luke, Charlotte, and Noah; and canine companion, Roxy.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 pm until 2:45 pm on Friday, July 9, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a masonic service will be offered at 2:45 pm. A funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the CDC and Governor of Delaware. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Chuck’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
