Chief Mrs. Christiana Mosunmola Solarin (née Odumoye)
August 4, 1933 - August 31, 2024
Chief Mrs. Christiana Mosunmola Solarin (née Odumoye) was born on August 4th, 1933 at the Lagos General Hospital later renamed Lagos Island Maternity Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria to the loving parents of Chief and Chief Mrs. Emmanuel & Felicia Abosede Odumoye Onipede. Christiana attended Shagamu Girls School. Upon her graduation, she worked briefly in Lagos where she met and married Mr. Abimbola Olanrewaju Solarin in 1955.
They were blessed with five children – Adebimpe, Abimbola, Modupe, Adeola, and Aderonke. In 1957, at the age of 24, she traveled with her husband to London, England, to pursue further education. She attended Pitman College, where she obtained a diploma in Data Entry and Statistics. This diploma equipped her with the necessary skills to excel in her career. After completing her studies in London, she returned to Nigeria in 1964. Upon returning home, she began her professional journey, working in various capacities within the Western Region of Nigeria. In 1976, when Ogun State was created, she joined the Civil Service. Her expertise and dedication were recognized, and she was distinguished as The Best Civil Servant of the Year, Ogun State, Nigeria, in the year 1985. This recognition showcased her contributions to the Civil Service. With her unwavering commitment and exceptional abilities, she climbed the ranks and retired as a Principal Data Processing Officer in 1989. Her retirement marked the end of a remarkable career that spanned several decades and left a lasting impact on the organization she served.
Throughout her life, Christiana remained dedicated to her family. She raised her children with love, discipline, and a strong sense of values. Her home was a haven of warmth and hospitality, and she nurtured the growth and development of her children.
After her retirement, Christiana relocated to Lagos, where she settled at Papa Ajao, Lagos. In this new location, she faithfully attended Palm Avenue Methodist Church on a regular basis. Additionally, she maintained her full membership at Agbowa Methodist Church, Makun, Shagamu, where she actively participated in church activities.
As a devoted Christian, Christiana loved and served God wholeheartedly. She dedicated her time and talents to various capacities within her local churches. She was an active member of the Methodist Church in Abeokuta, Shagamu, and Lagos, contributing to the spiritual growth and well-being of the congregation.
One of Christiana’s notable contributions was her active participation in Girls Brigade at the church in Abeokuta. She actively mentored young girls, teaching them the values of faith, discipline, and service.
In addition to Girls Brigade, Christiana also dedicated her time to being an active member of the Ladies League at Agbowa church, Sagamu. Through her involvement, she supported women’s empowerment and encouraged fellow members to live a life of virtue and service.
Furthermore, Christiana’s commitment to her faith led her to become an active member of the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) at the Palm Avenue church in Lagos. She played a significant role in organizing and participating in activities that promoted sisterhood and spiritual growth among the young women in the church.
In recognition of her dedication to service and her unwavering commitment to her faith, Christiana was elevated to the position of Iya Alaje of Ogbe Methodist Church. This honor bestowed upon her is a testament to her unwavering dedication and commitment to the church community.
True to her Christian beliefs and values, Christiana went on the pilgrimage to Jerusalem. This pilgrimage allowed her to experience the birthplace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, further deepening her spiritual connection and commitment to her faith.
As a philanthropist who served her community with her resources, she was honored with the title: Yeye Olofin Of Igbepa Shagamu.
In the early 2000s, Christiana split her sojourn between multiple continents. Her time in London and America was used to help raise beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren. She attended and lovingly worshipped at the Glorious Light Christian Ministry, New Jersey, USA. Her time in Nigeria was spent maintaining her love and affection to family needs, friends and acquaintances and the church. Her latter days were spent under the love and care of family members. She finally journeyed to meet her Maker peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2024 surrounded by all of her children, sons-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, one sibling (Abimbola Shoyombo), nephews, nieces and numerous extended family members spanning the entire globe.
In addition to her parents, Christiana was preceded in death by her husband, Abimbola Solarin; and two sisters; Oladunni Akinsemoyin and Olanihun Odusanya.

We thank God for the life of mummy. I met mama in 1989 through my friend Adeola Solarin and since I met mama she took me as her daughter. She also took my elder sister as her daughter too who even lived with her for sometime in Lagos. I remember when mummy came back from England in 1992 when my friend Adeola just gave birth to her first daughter Ife. She brought back gifts and she split them equally with us, she really made me feel like I was her daughter. She would even call me sis Taibat because that is what my friend Adeola used to call me and I’d tell her that I’m her daughter and call me Taibat. She’s very generous, caring and a very kind mother.
We love you mummy but God loves you more. May the Lord continue to grant you rest and peace at His blossom.

Mummy, our path crossed when I was a vibrant young lady navigating life’s journey. You took me with open arms as one of yours and showed me love, give me advice and encouraged me as a young lady. Providence however separated us and brought us together again after four decades. Surprisingly you still recognised and gave me one of those beautiful smiles of yours. Due to your large heart, and the art of giving that you have, you still attempted to bless me with cash gift during your grandson’s wedding 2 years ago in Ohio though I refused and would rather bless you instead. Your legacy of good deeds and show of affection is instilled in all your children. Though translated, Mummy, you live forever in the hearts of those who love you.
My prayer is that you find rest in the bosom of your Maker and may the Lord grant those you left behind the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. Adieu! Until the resurrection morning when we shall meet to part no more.
Goodnight beautiful Mummy.

Mummy Ibadan, your death came as a bit of shock to me, just because I had assumed you were going to live till a hundred and more. But in everything we give thanks to almighty God for beautiful life you lived.
You were always loving and caring towards me. One of my beloved memory of you was when I was I think 8 or 9, we were leaving a family function in Shagamu and you asked me to go with you in your car. I was excited because I would be sitting in the front seat and also because you chose me. Somehow someone slammed the car door on my hand, you took me to the hospital and had a nurse take care of the hand. You kept asking me how I was feeling in the car and even came next day to check up on me. You were that caring and loving.
When I saw you two years ago at Ayo’s wedding ceremony, your memory was still intact. At the ripe age of 89, you recognized us and called each person by name. God blessed you ma.
Mummy all i have is the sweet memories you left behind, these memories i will cherish dearly. We love you but God loves you more.
Sleep well ma, till we meet years and years to come at the feet of Christ.

Bimbola Solarin Adeogun and I became very good friends in higher school at Comprehensive High School, Ayetoro. We both had homes in Abeokuta, and during one of our school breaks, I traced Bimbo to her house. Mommy was very warm and welcoming towards me. Meeting me for the first time, I could feel genuine love and affection towards me…’Lawunmi, kilo fe je? Obe wa, rice nko, eba nko? Ma tiju o omo mi…’ I also met Bimbola’s beautiful and well-mannered sisters; mommy apparently did a wonderful job. This was a first of a couple other times that I was in contact with her. Even as aging continued to creep in, mommy never forgot to send me messages of love and prayers through Bimbola. She was so beautiful inside and out. My sincere condolences to my dearest friend, Abimbola ‘Abim’, and her lovely sisters, Sister Bimpe, Dupe, Deola , and Ronke. You had one of the best, strong, and caring moms in the world. Her memories will remain indelible in our minds and hearts. May she be received with open arms by our Lord, and may her sins be forgiven. Mommy lived a beautiful and enviable life, surrounded by caring children and grandchildren. Ki omo rere gbeyin gbogbo wa🙏🏽

My memories of Mrs. Christiana Solarin dated back to 1973 when I met one of her charming daughters Mrs. Abimbola Adeogun in Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Ibadan. For her, friendship with her daughter is automatic friendship with her and her entire family with deep commitment. I’m happy to recall the goodies shared with Bola on visiting days, your guidance during my first clerical job in Abeokuta after my secondary school, the free meals on every visit to the family house in Iṣabọ, free rides alongside your daughter to University of Ife, your mentoring efforts in my marriage in Papa-Ajao days which led you to befriend my mother, the support you and the entire family gave during the challenging periods when my daughter was studying in the US. I’m privileged to have your association at different stages of my life. I watched you displayed strength of character in circumstances, and I think I’m emulating. I watched your parenting style with admiration. I can rightly call you MOTHER. Adieu, great matriarch. Take your well-deserved rest in the bosom of your Creator. May your legacies flourish. Rest on, Mama.

Words fail me to describe the entirety of what you represent to us all.
You have always been a strong support system for the family with your love and care constantly shown to everyone.
Your intentional act of bridging the entire family remains something we would always admire and take lessons from, a virtue we would never forget.
Though we feel a sense of pain that we wouldn’t see you or call you like we use to but we take solace in what you represented and shown us all through your life.

You have left behind a big shoe to fill but we will be constantly reminded of what you represent and the care you constantly showed even when it isn’t convenient.
Your selfless nature remains a blessing and your humble and down to earth approach will make us miss you so dearly.
Irrespective of the age, you would always pay attention to them with a true desire of care, concern and love.
And I cannot forget how you tell me off in those affirmative sleek words of yours while still keeping your smile on, and after which you will always say, hope i wouldn’t have to be looking for you to come see me soon.

Dearest and most beautiful Mama Solarin,
It’s a bit hard to say good bye to a wonderful, courageous, wise, hard-working and devout mother in Israel. She was a mother and grandmother to many outside her biological children. Our paths crossed around 1997 when she came to Indiana to take care of her grandchildren through (now) our beloved Uncle and Auntie Isaac and Modupe Ositelu.
When we met with Mama Solarin, she treated us not less than her own children. She even adopted our mother, Mrs. Ebudola Olukoya as her sister. They did things together, here in the States and took their “sisterly” relationship back to Nigeria. The two families became one with her virtues and effort; all became sisters and brothers.
Mama Solarin met no stranger. She loved and cared for everyone. She was very plain and truthful, hard working, caring, a giver to the core and above all, she loved God and served Him unwaveringly. What else can we say about a beloved Mother who lived a good life and blessed with heavenly blessings.
Definitely, we love you, mother in Isreal, but the Lord loves you more. Human living cannot be turned to everlasting otherwise, you will still have your physical essence.
According to the Word of God in 2 Tim 4:7, You had fought the good fight, you had finished the race and had kept the Faith. Till we meet where we will part no more. Didun didun ni iranti olododo. Your legacy lives on mommy !!!!
Good night!!!

Mama Christiana Solarin indeed lived a very meaningful and spiritually impactful life. A virtuous devoted woman to the core! She sure touched the hearts of everyone around her. Her love to all was so obvious in her actions. She was compassionate, caring and so committed. I met Mama in year 2000 through her Children, Aunty Modupe and Sis Ronke. She later met my Mom in 2002 when she came to Indianapolis. They became best friends, confidants and prayer partners and over the years, their relationship grew. In Mama’s words, she would always ask me when I talk to her on the phone “Awon Mama nko, Se e gburo won”? This she still asked me when I saw her in Cleveland, during her Grandson’s wedding. So thankful that I got to see her and took pictures with Mama. My Mom was very fond of Mama and appreciated every evident way Mama expressed love to her. She would always ask of Mama at every slightest opportunity she had after her return to Nigeria. Her legacy and love will forever linger in our hearts. May Mama’s gentle kind hearted soul rest in eternal peace. I pray for all her Children, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and the entire family that she left behind, for the grace of God to abound in their lives and to uphold them all. Amen 🙏🏾

We first met Mrs. Christiana Solarin in Abeokuta in the late 1970s. She was always welcoming and a pillar of strength and grace, with unwavering dedication to her family, community, and faith. She nurtured her loved ones with boundless love and wisdom as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Solarin leaves a legacy of service and compassion, and we will deeply miss her warmth, kindness, and steadfast spirit. However, her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her. Rest in peace, dear Mrs. Solarin; it was a priviledge to have known you.
