Clifford C. Walker, Sr. - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Clifford C. Walker, Sr.

April 18, 1929 - September 30, 2022

Clifford C. Walker, Sr., age 93, of Wilmington, DE, passed away at his residence on Friday, September 30, 2022.  Cliff lived a longer life than he’d ever expected and took full advantage of every minute granted him, forging a long trail of laughter, generosity, compassion, and home-grown wisdom.  He was the ultimate family man, comedian, good Samaritan, snappy dresser, and jack of all trades.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on April 18, 1929, Clifford was the fifth of seven sons of the late Alfred DuPont Walker, Sr. and Martha Georgia (Little) Walker.

Cliff worked at General Motors, advancing from production worker to supervisor before retiring after 38 years.  He was a member of the Ionic Lodge No. 31, AF & AM, the Marching Patrol and the Cycle Patrol of Nur Temple, the Delaware Consistory, the American Motorcycle Association, the Delaware Retreads, the First State Treasure Hunter’s Club, and the GM Salaried Retirees Club.  He was a past president of Rose Hill School PTA. He was also in the A.I. DuPont High School Boxing Club for one day before retiring defeated.

Clifford had a variety of hobbies: collecting coins and all scales of model trains, metal detecting, and taking long rides on his motorcycle.  He also enjoyed camping with his family, trail riding on his ATVs (preferably with one of his grandchildren seated ahead of him to catch the spiderwebs), and watching WWE.  He had a wonderful sense of humor and excelled at telling questionable jokes, growing summer tomatoes, completing jigsaw puzzles, and making people feel at home. Much loved by all, he couldn’t travel anywhere, even to Florida on family vacation without being recognized and caught up in a conversation.

His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were always a source of delight.  He had a knack for making each one feel special.  Sundays at Pops was a family tradition that never got old.

Pops leaves behind a houseful of treasures that will take years to identify bringing out more stories and memories for his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Alice M. Walker; brothers Alfred Walker, Walter Walker, William Walker, Robert Walker and Vincent Walker.  He is survived by his 3 sons, Clifford C. Walker, Jr. (Bonnie), Glenn D. Walker (Patricia), and Dr. Eric A. Walker (Alexia); brother, George D. Walker; 7 grandchildren (David, Nicholas, Robin, Jessica, Trent, Jace, and Jax); and 4 great grandchildren (Lucy, Mila, Elyse, and Maddy Mae).

The family wishes to thank the staff of Delaware Hospice and of B.K. Temp Services for their compassionate help during the final weeks of Dad’s time with us.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 11:00 am on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 am.  Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

  • Growing up in Brack-Ex as I did, the Walker family was well-known on Brighton Ave. If I am not mistaken Clifford was our newspaper deliverer. The obituary brought back lots of memories. So sorry to learn of his passing.
