Craig B. Buckman, age 70, of Bear, DE, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021, surrounded by his children and siblings.

Craig was born in Kalamazoo, MI on October 4, 1950. Son of the late Robert Calvin and Jean Marie (Gingher) Buckman, Craig grew up in New Castle, DE and attended William Penn High School, class of 1968, where he met his late wife of 47 years, Sue. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after high school and served in Vietnam. Craig was then stationed to Andrews Air Base with Air Force One until 1975.

After his service, Craig with his wife, Sue, daughter, Sheila, and son, Brian, returned to New Castle where he worked at Atlas Point ICI until his retirement in 2006 as Plant Maintenance Manager. He came out of retirement to work as the Facilities Supervisor at the YMCA of Bear, DE from 2008 until 2014.

Craig is survived by his daughter, Sheila Elliott and her husband, Jeff; son, Brian Buckman and his wife, Sheryl; and grandchildren, Jenna, Alec, Rebecca and Paige.

Craig is predeceased by both of his parents, Robert Calvin and Jean Marie (Gingher) Buckman; wife, Sue (Hornberger) Buckman; and brother, Robert Scott Buckman. He will be deeply missed by his siblings, Grant Buckman (Sandy), Shelley Rhoades (Jim), Kim Ritchie (Bruce) and Todd Buckman; and sisters-in-law, Deb Brodie (Kevin) and Sandy Brainard. Also, a large host of wonderful and beloved nieces and nephews will miss their Uncle Craig.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 noon until 1 pm on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 1 pm. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the CDC and Governor of Delaware. Interment will be held privately.

    I am very sorry to hear about your dad. I think about both your mom and dad often. We have a group picture with them on our mantle. It was taken in Killington VT in 2004. Please take care and if I can do anything let me know.

  • To Craig’s family: I am so very sorry to learn of Craig’s passing. Craig was our Facility Director at the Bear-Glasgow YMCA. We shared a lot of laughs and he was a key member of that Y team. Craig had that wonderful smile and was dedicated to his work. Please know he loved his family very much as I remember how he would light up any time he spoke of his family. I know that you all will miss him very much.
