Dallas Plugge Dean, age 83, of Middletown, DE, lost a valent fight with cancer and passed peacefully to her eternal rest, without pain or trouble, on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

Born in Washington, DC on March 8, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Lydia Moehring Plugge.  Dallas was born and raised in Washington, DC.  She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School.  She attended St. Mary’s Seminary Junior College and received her associates degree in 1960. She graduated from American University with a BA in education.  After graduation she went onto become a grade school teacher for 30 years at Roger’s Heights Elementary School in Blandensburg, Maryland.  Dallas met and married her first love, Raynor Dean.  She was an avid antique collector as evidenced by her wonderful collection of furniture and historic household items.  Dallas was a philanthropist and donated to many animal humane societies, people in need and Christian organizations.  She was a spiritual person involved with many activities with her church in both Washington, DC and Middletown and was a chaplain for the American Legion Post 41 in Washington, DC for over 30 years. Dallas will be deeply missed by both family and friends who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Dallas was preceded in death by her longtime partner, Arnold Toller. She is survived by her cousins, Rick Moehring (Debbie), Kimberly Moehring Andrews (Mark), Mark Moehring (Anne Marie), Addy, Josie Grace Moehring, and Sandra (Dar) Monson of Stillwater, MN; special friend, Bob Densmore; friend of 70 years, Ramona Schlueter from Le Sueur, MN; and many friends from church, Le Sueur, MN, and other activities.  The family would like to give special thanks to her faithful and attentive care givers, Wayne and Beth Slippey, Donna Parks and the hospice people who cared for Dallas until the end.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. 7 Condolences for Dallas Plugge Dean

  • Prayers for all who knew and loved Dallas

  • Sorry for the loss of such a sweet lady. I got to know her thru her short stay at Parkview when she was there for rehab. She told me lots of stories about her life. She was a really nice person and will be missed by all.

  • I’m sure going to miss The Original Dallas of SMCM. I’m so grateful that I was able to meet her and form a special bond over our shared names. Dallas Dean’s passing is a loss to us all. She was such a kind, giving, and lively lady. I’ll miss her currently and think of her often.

  • I initially met Dallas Dean decades ago through Alumni events at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. We immediately became fast friends and would look forward to seeing each other and spending great times together at many Alumni Weekends through the years, as well as River Concerts, the annual Awards Ceremony, and Arts Alliance activities, to name a few. During a couple years when I lived in Chestertown, I would visit Dallas in nearby Delaware. It was a real honor recently to assist her in co-hosting her housewarming party at her newly-built home.
The evening when Dallas was the recipient of the most prestigious award of St. Mary’s College, the Ark & Dove award, she was beaming with pride and joy. What a wonderful life she lived, and the impact she made on so many, especially her scholarship recipients, as well as her many friends. I can genuinely say We’ll All Miss You, Dallas.
With much gratitude for our long-time friendship, I wish you Peace and Rest.

  • Rest In Peace Dallas, you are going to be missed

  • I first met Dallas on a St. Mary’s College Alumni trip to California in 1997. We were roommates and friends ever since. She was so kind and generous, an avid traveler, full of stories to tell. Her love for and dedication to her alma mater, what is now St. Mary’s College of Maryland is evident by her scholarship support and the new learning commons on campus being named in her honor. She will be missed.

  • To Dallas’ Relatives & Friends:
I have had the honor of knowing Dallas as another Sem Fem from St. Mary’s Seminary Junior College, my Class of 1963.
We both became teachers: I, too, as an Elementary teacher of 27 years in Carroll County, MD teaching third & fifth grades.
We often spoke of our experiences & the similarities of same, AND the changes we experienced at SMSJC, & in Education in general. Nowadays, I doubt many teachers last that long!
I’m certain Dallas is already assisting new teachers in setting up their classrooms, & has a list of Do’s & Don’ts for their success, so she’s doing HER THING! And never an expert than Dallas!
I send to you my Sincerest Sympathy, & know that she will be long remembered by those of us who LOVE St. Mary’s & had the honor of knowing Dallas.
