Daniel Erik "Dan" Hasson - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Daniel Erik “Dan” Hasson

August 11, 1977 - July 10, 2021

Daniel Erik “Dan” Hasson, age 43, of New Castle, DE, passed away suddenly in his home on Saturday, July 10, 2021.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on August 11, 1977, he was a son of the late Donald C. and Carol (Beaston) Hasson. Dan graduated from William Penn High School in 1995, attended the University of Delaware, and later graduated from Salem Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Scientific Glass Blowing in 2000. After graduating, he worked for many years at Greatglas, Inc. in Wilmington, Delaware.

As a teen, Dan spent his summers surfing and canoeing in South Bethany, DE. He loved music. He sang, played guitar, drums, harmonica, and had just started learning violin. Dan’s quick wit allowed him to make original songs and lyrics on the spot.

Dan fiercely loved his family and friends and was unwaveringly loyal. He called and visited, remembered birthdays, and planned family events. He hated text messaging and would respond to every text with a call.

He was a connoisseur of port wine, Belgian beers, and slow broiled meats. In fact, he was a grill master. Anything meat. Dan would often bring meat he cooked all day to share, but he would never provide any sides or vegetables.

Dan’s style is hard to explain, he loved old and obscure décor. He enjoyed video games, cartoons, and music, and had a unique eye for art that often went over our heads. This can also be seen in the many hilarious old home movies that he made with his family and friends. Sometimes Dan would print inside jokes on custom t-shirts as gifts.

Dan’s only enemy was the heat, an odd trait for a glass blower. His house was always kept very cool, and you knew to crank up your A/C if he was coming over or to pack a sweatshirt if you were visiting him.

Dan spent five years caring for his aging parents. He gave himself to everyone and often forgot to take some time for himself. He was loved by all who knew him. Dan will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by beloved “Uncle” Bill Holt. He is survived by his sister, Diana Rager (Jason); brother, David Hasson (Courtney); niece, Miki Rager; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

All services will be held privately.

So many little things remind me of you… Not enough space or time to list them all. I wish I could hear the ring tone I had set up for you, but the pipes, the pipes, they called you.

  • I never had the opportunity to meet Dan in person. Dan and I had known each other for 10 years. We had shared personal stories and it was always a fun time playing online video games with him along with his best friend Ryan. Dan and I periodically talked over the phone to find out what’s new in each other’s everyday lives. We became good friends over the years. Dan was an amazing soul. I am so thankful for your memories. Your contagious laugh and jokes will never be forgotten. Rest In Peace, my friend. You’re forever in my ❤️

  • Dan, I am having to surrender trying to understand why your time came so soon, to such a kind and talented and funny man. We have known you since you were 3 years, like a member of our family and are heartbroken that we can no longer hug you and talk with you.
No more societal trappings for you now, so being the free spirit you were born to be, make your music – send it to each one you touched, lighten the cosmos with your humor and remind us to love fiercely, each day. You are with us always.

  • My heart aches for just one more phone call with you, Dan. You were the best hug-giver and you cared for and loved your family so deeply. We miss you so much it’s hard to breathe sometimes. Play that beautiful music with no more earthly burdens and hug your Mom for me. I promise to work on smiling more than I cry when I remember you, and I know we will meet again someday.

  • I just found this; sorry for the late reply. Dan was my neighbor. He was a good guy and was becoming part of the family. Hanging out with our family for Sunday dinners by the pool was becoming a thing. We will miss Dan and our thoughts and hopes go out to his family.

  • I dated Dan about 13 years ago .. somewhere around there… He was a good guy. made me his famous barbeque tender steak. How special did I feel when he would play his guitar in my presence. I just happened to look him up on and seen he passed. I’m sad to know he is gone even tho I only knew him for a short time.
