Daniel J. “Danny” Stevenson
February 18, 2014 - May 27, 2019
Daniel J. “Danny” Stevenson, age 5, of Wilmington, DE, passed away suddenly on Monday, May 27, 2019 at A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital.
Born in Newark, DE on February 18, 2014, he was the son of Darryle J. Stevenson and Sharaye D. (Goldsborough) Wyatt. Danny had a huge imagination and loved creating stories to share with his family. He enjoyed laughing, telling jokes and would respond to jokes saying “that’s so silly!” all while laughing hysterically. He always wanted to lend a helping hand, especially with his little brother. Danny would often help feed him, show him toys and even helped his brother learn how to walk. He made an indelible impression on his teachers and classmates because of his memorable personality and free spirit. Danny was an inquisitive person who loved to ask questions, figure out how things worked and why they worked the way they did. He was very expressive with his emotions, loved giving hugs and would never miss an opportunity to share a smile. Danny could talk to just about anyone at great length when it came to his beloved ceiling fans, fidget spinners, toy cars, buses and trains. His favorite TV show to watch was Tayo!
Danny was a loving child who could light up any room he entered. He was a beautiful spirit who overcame so much in his short time here and exceeded any limitations that life tried to place on him.
Danny was preceded in death by his sister, Lyliana Castro. He is survived by his parents, Darryle J. Stevenson and Sharaye D. Wyatt; step-father, James Wyatt; brother, Jaylen Wyatt; maternal grandparents, Cliff and Raye Goldsborough; paternal grandparents, Darryl and Deborah Henry; and aunts, Shiela Goldsborough, Jane’e Bass and Ebony Bass.
A gathering for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Services and interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
A Poem for Danny
Little boy with the bright ol’ eyes
Tell me why you’re so surprised
By everything you see and hear
Your pure delight is so sincere
You giggle at the things you see
And point, and jump, and stare at me
Little boy with the bright ol’ eyes
Filled with questions, filled with “why’s?”
Do you want to know all things?
Do you know the joy it brings?
To try and answer what I can…
And all your questions start again
Little boy with the bright ol’ eyes
To whom I sing my lullabies
My heart is full with love you give
My arms are full with hugs so big
You feel so warm and smell so sweet
As you lay by me fast asleep
Little boy with the bright ol’ eyes
Tell me when you got so wise?
I guess, like time, those things have passed
You’ve got the answers that you need
There’s no more questions left to ask
To fill your heart, and set you free
Little boy with the bright ol’ eyes
When did you learn how to fly?
Seems over night, you’ve grown your wings
And made your peace, and taught me things
And now I have so many “why’s”
As you depart with your goodbyes
With love, Mommy
