Daniel Paul “Danny” Walterscheid
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel Paul “Danny” Walterscheid, a beloved paramedic, outdoorsman, and friend to all who knew him. Danny passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 7, 2025, at the age of 26.
Tall, strong, and radiating kindness, Danny embodied the spirit of service and dedication to emergency medical services. As a paramedic, he cared deeply for his community, often going above and beyond to bring compassion and skill to those in need during their most vulnerable moments. His calm presence and quick thinking saved countless lives and brought comfort to many others.
Outside of his work, Danny found peace and purpose in the great outdoors. A skilled practitioner of bushcraft, he mastered the art of survival with minimal tools. He was able to spark fires without matches and camp in harmony with nature using low-impact techniques. He relished every moment spent under the stars, where the wilderness was both his teacher and sanctuary.
Danny will be remembered for his intelligence, courage, and unwavering generosity. His laughter filled every room, and his determination inspired all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of service, adventure, and love for both people and nature.
He is survived by his parents, Jeff and Monika; step-parents, Barbara Gould and Carson Taylor; brother, Eric; half-siblings, Calista and Nicola Walterscheid, Evan and Adria Taylor; grandparents, Clyde and Sharon Walterscheid, Jay and Svata Link; uncle, Sam and Cindy Walterscheid; uncle, Peter Link and Mary Pat; aunt, Helena Link; and countless friends, colleagues, and community members who will forever cherish his memory.
A celebration of Danny’s life will be held from at 10 am until 11 am on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE. Inurnment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Shaffer Family Foundation for first responders, please make checks payable to Rally For Our First Responders and mail to P.O. Box 110, Lewes, DE 19958 or online by clicking here; or a nature conservation organization of your choice.
Danny, rest easy under the open skies you loved so much. You will be forever missed.

Danny was an amazing young man. I and my husband, Evan, are shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Danny’s passing. No parent should out live a child. Our hearts go out to Danny’s Parents, step-parents, and his siblings, as well as his grandparents.

My first memory of Danny is of a blond-haired, sweet-natured four-year-old boy who, soon thereafter, became my stepson. He truly was one of the most gentle and kind young men I’ve ever known. Danny found his calling in life as a paramedic, a career
that allowed him to live a proud and independent life. His move to the east coast meant I saw him less frequently in recent years, but I will still miss him tremendously in my heart.

My best memories of Danny were when he spent a week with me at Wrightsville Beach, NC when he was 8 years old. Such a bright, kind, sweet soul – open and ready for anything! Such a sad loss for us all!
