Daniel R. “Dan” Hawkins
November 12, 1944 - May 19, 2025
Daniel R. “Dan” Hawkins, age 80, of Earleville, MD, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025.
Born in Newark, DE on November 12, 1944, he was a son of the late Ray C. and Ruth (McCreary) Hawkins. Dan served four years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. After leaving the service, he spent many years in the Denver, CO area operating a commercial paint company, and then moved on to selling windows, doors, and awnings in both the Denver area and when he moved to the Indianapolis area. Dan was a consummate salesperson, loved to network, socialize, and could sell “snow to the Eskimos”. Coming back East, he worked in real estate and as a mortgage loan officer, retiring from Bank of America in 2011.
Dan loved being out in nature doing activities such as bird watching, spending time by the water, fishing in his boat, and going on walks with his beloved dogs. He loved to cook and grill and was known for his many delicious meals which included lasagna, pork chops, stuffed shrimp, and was known to always “stick to the recipe”. Dan loved trains, cars, boats, his scotch, cigars, and was a huge football fan of the Baltimore Ravens and the Washington Commanders. In the past couple of years, most afternoons would find Dan and his wife playing a game of dominoes or cards. He enjoyed going on short road trips, especially to Eastern Shore towns, which brought him great pleasure. Dan had a great sense of humor and was a bit of a class clown. He always loved spending time with friends and family, especially Sunday afternoon dinner at his parent’s house with the family.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his siblings, June Lowe and Barbara Sumpter. He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela A. (Munch) Hawkins; daughter, Tammy Morgan; grandson, Wayde Griffis; niece, Rebecca Tucker (Bobby); great-nephew, Blake Tucker; great-niece, Olivia Tucker; stepchildren, Mary Wislocki and Sean Hickey (Renee); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 12 pm on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE. A committal service will follow at 1 pm in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dan’s memory to the Cecil County SPCA, 3280 Augustine Herman Highway, Chesapeake City, MD 21915 or online by clicking here.
