Dara B. Sheldon

Dara B. Sheldon, age 83, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

Born in Wilmington, DE on February 15, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Walter Steven and Ellen Bonsal (Smith) Cahoon. After 30 years of service, she retired from Bank of America, where she was recognized for her hard work, commitment, and dedication.

Dara lived a quiet and simple life, finding her greatest joy in the people she loved most. Her family was the center of her world, and she never missed an opportunity to bring everyone together. Whether it was a holiday, family gathering, or birthday celebration, Dara made it a priority to be there, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

She was known for her stubborn and strong-willed personality, always doing things her own way. Those who knew her loved her for her determination, her unwavering loyalty, and the deep love she had for her family. Dara stayed connected through her daily phone calls with her children, always wanting to know how everyone was doing. She had a gift for gardening and took great pride in her beautiful plants. Dara also loved to bake, especially during the Christmas season with her best friend, Evelyn, when the two spent countless hours rolling peanut butter balls together. She adored her pets as if they were her own children and held a special place in her heart for her grand-pets as well.

In addition to her parents, Dara was preceded in death by her brother, John Cahoon. She is survived by her beloved husband for more than 63 years after the two met while attending Goldey Beacom College, Robert Sheldon; her children, Robbie (Lelah), Debbie (Steve), Kathy (Jamie), Jamie (Joanne), Jenny (Matt), Lori (Alex), Chris (Rachel) and Kimi (Will); grandchildren, Kristin (Jake), Emilie (Zak), Lainey, Ashlyn, Chris, Mark (Bri), Antonio, Maddie, Jax, Rylee, Niko and Melina; and great-grandchildren, Liam and Addie.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
