David Charles McFarlan, Jr.

February 27, 1945 - October 9, 2026

David Charles McFarlan, Jr., age 81, of Wilmington, DE, quietly passed away at his home on Friday, October 9, 2026.

Born in Columbus, Ohio on February 27, 1945, he was a son of the late David Charles and Annabelle (Hooker) McFarlan. Dave graduated from Salesianum High School and earned his B.A. from Lincoln University. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, Dave pursued a career in accounting, spending most of his career with Zenker and Styer, followed by Capital and Worth, in North Wilmington.  Dave reluctantly retired in 2023.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Dave was kind, caring, and always funny. Although he enjoyed yard work, home projects, and shopping at the hardware store, he loved nothing more than spending time with his family (including his pets), especially when food was involved.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his sister, Dinah Stewart. He is survived by his wife, Liz; daughters, Aimee and Heather McFarlan; sons, Evan McFarlan (Brette), and Caleb McFarlan (Sam); and three grandsons, Jackson, Parker, and Lane. He is also survived by his niece, Cindy Stewart (Todd Dechter); nephew, Phil Stewart; and grandnephew, Max Stewart.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Church, 200 East Main Street, Newark, DE. A committal service will follow in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516 or online by clicking here.
