David L. “Dave” Atchley
February 20, 1977 - September 3, 2023
David L. “Dave” Atchley, age 46, of Newark, Delaware, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 3, 2023.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware on February 20, 1977, he was the son of Steven W. Atchley and the late Mary Ann Pastelenic. David, or as his friends called him, Dave, was a lifelong Delawarean who graduated from Newark High School. He entered the United States Marine Corps and completed basic training but was discharged after a year for medical reasons. David worked at a variety of careers but seemed to have found his niche as a warehouse manager and fork lift driver.
David’s real passion was watching and reading about professional football, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers. If you wanted to know anything about the Steelers, past or present, he could tell you. Names, statistics, records, etc. were his forte and he would be quick to correct his Uncle Greg and his father, Steve when they misspoke. One of David’s fondest memories was traveling to Pittsburgh with his father Steve, and cousins, CJ Wood and Matt, to attend a game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants.
David is survived by his father, Steven (Diana (McKnight); cousins, Frank Sawicki (Katie), Eddie Sawicki (Sherrie), and Matt Atchley (Susan); and their children, Layla, Tyler, Alana, and Ava. David had remarked on many occasions how much he enjoyed spending time with his cousins and their families.
A celebration of David’s life will begin at 1 pm on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 200 Marrows Road, Newark, DE.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David’s memory to Delaware Intergroup, 21B Trolley Square, Wilmington, DE 19806, or online by clicking here.

My heart breaks and my prayers are with the family. I loved my cousin very much like a brother. We watched Rocky movies and drank raw eggs. We are crazy bunch of cousins but we stood together. Love and miss you Dave!
