David L. “Dave” Haan

David L. “Dave” Haan, age 85, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
Born in Grand Rapids, MI on August 20, 1940, he was a son of the late Ben and Minnie Haan. Dave proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS McCaffery from 1959 until 1961. He made his career as an environmental specialist for the Lewis Environmental Group in Royersford, PA until his retirement.
An avid outdoorsman, Dave enjoyed spending his free time hunting deer and fishing. A friend to his community, he was known as the neighborhood handyman who was always happy to lend a helping hand. Dave’s expertise included working on cars, whether it was his own, a friend’s, or neighbor’s car. Football season was spent cheering on his beloved Philadelphia Eagles. During the summer, Dave looked forward to visiting Bethany Beach. His happiest memories were made at Disney World with his wife, Emily, where they had visited over 30 times.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Emily Joyce (Metts) Haan; and brother, Daniel Haan. He is survived by his children, Jessica Kendig (Jerry), Kim Haan (David), and Scott Haan (Patti); brother-in-law, Dave Metts (Brenda); and many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11:30 am on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11:30 am. A committal service will follow in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

I am so sorry about your dad. It’s hard for any girl, no matter how old, to lose such caring, fun devoted father and family guy. I remember so many fun times at skating meets, like when we camped behind one of the rinks. Cherish your memories and he’ll always be with you.

Dave will be greatly missed for his warm, giving spirit. He was a dear friend and was greatly admired for his willingness to lend a hand wherever he could. Loved the many times spent with Dave, Joyce, Alice, Brenda & Dave Metts preparing meals (along with my CBP co-workers) at The Ronald McDonald house. Dave was a Master at carving many a watermelon for there. I’ll miss our talks, laughs and him proudly showing me his latest projects. Rest in Peace my friend and be sure to give Joyce a hug for me.
