David Wayne “Dave” Clendenning, Sr.

David Wayne “Dave” Clendenning, Sr., age 69, of Newark, DE, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026.

Born in Chester, PA, on December 13, 1956, he was a son of the late William J. Clendenning, Sr. and Patricia Lee (Woodward) Barkley. Dave made his career as a merchandiser for Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits for over 20 years.

David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He loved his family very much and made sure they were always taken care of. Watching movies brought Dave great joy, and was one of his favorite ways to relax. He loved spending football season cheering on the Miami Dolphins. In his free time, Dave enjoyed target shooting. Dave always looked forward to visiting Red Lobster to feast on his favorite food, shrimp. He would also sneak a cupcake any chance he could.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Dale Clendenning; and grandson, Vincent Pastore. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Cynthia L. (Becker) Clendenning; children, Jean-Marie Pastore, Amanda Clendenning, Jessica Styles (Barrett), and David Clendenning, Jr.; siblings, Jerry Clendenning, Jr., Delsie V. Lines, and Brenda Inglis; and grandsons, Landen Styles and Caden Pastore.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1 pm until 2 pm on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 2 pm. Inurnment will be held privately.
