David Wayne Shaffer

David Wayne Shaffer, age 54, of Newark, DE, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, on January 12, 1968, he was a son of Linda Gayle (Hoffman) Shaffer and the late Maurice Klair Shaffer. David was a 1986 graduate of William Penn High School and attended Penn State University and Delaware College of Art and Design. He made his career as a BIM-tech designer for EDiS Company, for the past 7 years. David was also employed by CADtech, Allstate, MBNA, Honda East, Track and Trail, Cycle Shed and Cycle City.
An automobile and motorcycle racing enthusiast, he was a member of the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association and WERA Motorcycle Road Racing Association. David achieved 3rd place at NJMP-AHRMA race in 2021, 1st place at Mason Dixon Rally-Auto Canonball Run in 2008, 1st place Sport Bike-Valley Forge-Cycle World Reader’s Collection in 1994, 1st place Super Stock at Brandywine Motorsport Club in 2002 and 1st place A-Stock at Brandywine Motorsport Club in 2003.
An avid bowler, he earned 1st place Tuesday Men’s Handicap for Brunswick Blue Hen Bowling League. David also enjoyed billiards, scuba diving, and swimming. In 1982, he set the 500 yard freestyle pool record at McKean High School. An avid video gamer, David competed on Game Battles under the username xbladerunner.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, baby girl Shaffer and father-in-law, Carl Hechmer. David is survived by his wife of 35 years, Denise M. (Hechmer) Shaffer; daughters, Melanie and Laura; mother, Linda Shaffer; brother, Donald Shaffer; step brothers, Mill McKay and Ben McKay (Ginger); step mother, Susan Shaffer; brothers-in-law, Carl Hechmer (Karen) and Sean Hechmer (Kerry); mother-in-law, Patricia Hechmer; nephew, Griffin; and nieces, Tiffany, Rhys, Kayde, Ashlynn and Amelia.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 pm until 8 pm on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, 2431 Frazer Rd, Newark, DE. The family requests that face masks be worn by all in attendance, regardless of vaccination status. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.

I am finding out about David’s death by accident, I am at a lost for words right now , I was very fund of Dave and worked aside him at MBNA , and remember him well and have great Dave story , he purchased a brand new Corvette and followed it down the line and when it was complete he actually went to the assembly plant and drove it home himself with his beautiful wife Denise , for whom he adored , he will be missed my thoughts and prayers are with you over this most difficult time ,🙏
