David Wilson “Dave” Sumner
September 14, 1946 - July 15, 2025
David Wilson “Dave” Sumner, age 78, of Bear, DE, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
Born in Oxford, PA, on September 14, 1946, he was the son of the late Frank and Dolores Sumner. Dave proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He made his career as an equipment maintenance technician for Westvaco in Newark, DE, and after retirement he worked as a security guard.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his twin brother, Frank Sumner. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Patricia A. (Herb) Sumner; son, David Wilson Sumner, Jr.; stepsons, Mark McAlees (Marianne), Scott McAlees (Cheree), and Bryan McAlees (Lois); niece, Sondra Morton; and nephew, James Sumner.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2:00 pm until 2:30 pm on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 500 West Chestnut Hill Road, Newark, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 2:30 pm. A committal service will begin at 10 am on Thursday, August 7, 2025, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
