David Wortz
November 26, 1952 - April 9, 2026
Born on November 26, 1952 to Francis John and Dorothea Camilla Wortz and departed to our Lord on April 9, 2026; David Wortz, husband, father, and grandfather, provided a beautiful life of stability, interests, and faith in Jesus.
He made his living by the work of his own hands and diligent planning in starting David C. Wortz Painting when he was 27 years old which he continued successfully until he retired at 70 years old.
In his free time, that he worked hard to carve out, he took his family on trips to explore nature, go fishing, camping, antiquing, astronomy, gardening, work on projects in the woods, self-led archaeology and visit historical sites. He retained an excellent memory of world history and life events, and could make them come to life in his retelling. In the every day, his words and observations reflected his whimsical, youthful spirit. He had a way of turning ordinary things into fun memories. His creativity was inspired in nature and vision, creating intricate displays of treasures he’d find as well as building creations from what he found. He was also an excellent sketch artist. Many of these passions were caught by his children and grandchildren, who he called his friends; and shared by his wife, the only woman he loved, Terry; sharing 52 years of marriage and 57 years of life together. His life reflected his dedication to his family and to the Lord. Many respected him for his tough work ethic and the ability to push through anything, as well as his humor and gentle manner.
He is preceded in passing by his father, Francis Wortz; mother, Dorothea Wortz; and brother, Gerald Wortz. Carrying his legacy on is his wife, Terry Wortz; daughter, Ashlee Wortz; and sons, Justin, Luke and Jordan Wortz; and grandchildren Zimra, Kelila, Kalev and Amarise Shinn. He was a treasure of a man and is sorely missed by those who love him so tenderly.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Gracelawn Memorial Park Chapel, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David’s name to United Redeemed Church, 1552 Singerly Road, Elkton MD.
