Dolly (Armes) Hayes, age 87, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, January 16, 2023.

Born in West Virginia on September 18, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Harland James and Sarah Jane (Meadows) Armes. Dolly worked as a lead cashier at a department store for many years.

Dolly and her husband, Joseph were inseparable, they did everything together and shared many of the same interests. During the holidays, they would make appearances at different locations as Santa and Mrs. Claus. Dolly also enjoyed riding trains and watching old TV shows. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, they were her pride and joy.

In addition to her parents, Dolly was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. “Rocky” Hayes, Sr.; daughter, Joanna Simpers; granddaughter, Angel Simpers; and her brothers and 1 sister. She is survived by her children, Janie Dunfee (Wayne) of Bear, Joseph Hayes, Jr. (Jeanette) of New Castle, and James Hayes (Janice) of New Castle; sisters, Lola Debbrecht of New Castle, Elsie, and Frieda; grandchildren, Jason, Derrick, Jessica, Lauren, Andrew, Joey, Patrick, Nicole, and Ashleen; 9 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 pm until 6 pm on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A funeral service will begin at 10 am on Monday, January 23, 2023, at the funeral home. Interment will be held privately.
