On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, Dolly Elizabeth (McClain) Davis, age 82, passed away at Christiana Hospital with her daughter by her side.

Born on October 15, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Emma and William McClain. On November 25, 1961, Dolly married her husband of 65 years, Harry J. Davis Sr., in Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, New Castle, Delaware. Their marriage was blessed with three awesome children: Harry J. Davis Jr. (Nina Cannaday), Michael Lee Davis, and Beth Anne Schaen, all of Middletown; and two grandchildren, Brooke N. Schaen and Bianca N. Schaen.

Dolly began her career in sales at Avon many years ago. She also spent time with H&R Block and eventually Dolly’s Cosmetics in Dover, Delaware. Dolly volunteered at her church, St. Joseph Parish in Middletown, where she was a member for 35 years.

Dolly loved road trips to Atlantic City, New Jersey, Walt Disney in Florida, and Broadway in New York City. She enjoyed spending time with family, holidays, Taylor Swift, shopping at the outlets, cooking and attending the White Marlin Open in Ocean City, Maryland. Dolly also enjoyed watching her granddaughters dance, sing, and perform on stage. She will be missed tremendously.

  • My dad, Dick Toy Sr., and Harry worked together when I was a young girl. I have fond memories of Harry, Dolly and their children visiting at our home and in turn us visiting at their home. I remember a lot of laughing and me thinking how pretty Dolly was. Harry and family, I am so sorry for your loss.

  • I am so incredibly sorry for this tremendous loss of your family. Mrs. Davis was always a kind, gentle and generous soul, and she will be missed by all who knew her.
