Donald Albert Fleming

Born: 10/18/1943
Died: 12/14/2011

Mr. Donald Albert Fleming, age 68, of Newark and Massey’s Landing, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, surrounded by his family.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Fleming was born in Wilmington on October 18, 1943, son of the late Albert Fleming and Dorothy Thackaray Fleming. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, and, in civilian life, made his career with Edlon, Inc. in Avondale, PA, where he retired as the company’s manufacturing foreman.
Mr. Fleming was a gifted athlete from his youth and shared his enthusiasm for good sportsmanship as a volunteer baseball coach for both Christiana High School (five years) and Newark National Little League (twelve years). An avid fisherman, he greatly enjoyed spending time at his vacation home in Massey’s Landing. Most of all, he was pleased to be known as a loving family man who delighted in spending time with his wife, sons, and, especially, his grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Patricia Isenberg Fleming; sons, Donald P. Fleming and his wife Jennifer (whom Mr. Fleming loved as if she were his own daughter) of Newark and Jeffrey T. Fleming of Wilmington; sister, Barbara A. Alexander of Newark; and grandchildren, Madeline Olivia and Brendan Patrick Fleming.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Monday, December 19, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 9:30 am. A reception will follow at the Deer Park Tavern, 108 West Main Street, Newark.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Fleming may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
