Donald J. Casey
January 24, 1947 - January 31, 2025
Donald J. Casey, age 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Don was born on January 24, 1947 in Bryn Mawr, PA. He was the son of Donald E. and Vera (James) Casey. He graduated from Haverford High School, class of 1964. He went on to graduate from Villanova University in 1968. After graduation, Don served in the United States Air Force. From 1970 to 1973, he served most of his time overseas in Italy and Thailand. In 1976, Don married the love of his life, Mary, and they eventually settled in New Castle, DE.
Don’s career centered around broadcasting and marketing, working many years for Miller’s Furniture, culminating in the creation of his own business, Casey & Associates, Advertising and Public Relations. Don was very involved in his community. He was an active member of Philadelphia Broadcast Pioneers and a past member of the local Rotary. Don was very active in Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Wilmington Manor. He served as a Eucharistic Minister, on Finance Council, Parish Council, June Fair Committee, and Knights of Columbus as Deputy Grand Knight.
Those that knew Don knew of the immense love he had for his Philadelphia Eagles. A season ticket holder for 50 years, he was the ultimate fan. Until his health began to decline a few years ago, Don only missed two games, on the occasions when his daughters decided to come into this world on weekends there were Eagles home games. Whether at the stadium or watching at home, Don forever cheered on his Eagles. GO BIRDS!
In addition to his wife, Mary (Spellman), Don is survived by his loving daughters, Katie Berry and Mary Pat Casey, as well as his pride and joy, his two grandchildren Trey and Hannah. He is also survived by his brothers, Kirk and James (Donna), sisters Vera (Ron) and Bonnie, as well as his large extended family including his in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. He will be missed by his faithful four-legged friends, Finn and Fitz.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. A committal service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 14, 2025, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

Don Casey was simply the kindest, most generous, and most gentle person I ever knew. We served together at a small Air Force base in southern Italy. Don was my sponsor when I was assigned to the base, and he wrote me letters and sent me information so make my transition easier. After I arrived there, he invited me to spend the weekend at his apartment off base so I could learn more about the new culture into which the Air Force had dropped me. My car broke down one time, and he loaned me his Fiat without hesitation. You are probably aware that people serving in the Armed Forces quickly develop deep and lasting relationships, and Don and I have been good friends ever since.
Don loved the Air Force, and he considered re-enlisting right up to the last minute before he separated from active duty. He made the rank of Staff Sergeant in less than four years, which was quite an accomplishment in our Air Force at the time. He was also awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for the consistent high performance of his duties.
I have never heard anyone say a bad word about Don Casey, and I have never heard Don Casey bad mouth anyone else. He was the most positive person I have ever known. Long live his memory. Love and condolences to Mary, Katie, and Mary Pat.

Dearest Mary, Katie, and Mary Pat,
We were so saddened to learn of the passing of your beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We always looked forward to talking with Don at some of the big O’Leary, and Dumm family events. He was interesting, kind and thoughtful and so proud of his wonderful family. Deep love such as yours will also cause deep pain with your loss and please take all the time to grieve, there is no time limit. Hugs and loves from Maureen, Steve and Sean Orr

Mary, Katie and Mary Pat, we are thinking of you and sending our prayers. Don truly was a thoughtful and compassionate man. We’ll always cherish our back in the day memories at The Beach… (poolside, movie nights with pizza, along with carpooling the girls to Dewey, and of course Eagle Fans too!) 💚💚
