Dorcas Lucille Wellman Everette

July 20, 1935 - May 19, 2026

Dorcas Lucille Wellman Everette, 90, of Townsend, Delaware, formerly of Neptune, New Jersey, and Brunswick, Georgia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her son, on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

Born in Waverly, Georgia, on July 20, 1935, Dorcas was the daughter of the late James and Dollie Wellman. Dorcas graduated from Risley High School in 1953 and attended Voorhees Junior College in Denmark, South Carolina, where she graduated in 1955 as a seamstress. She moved to New Jersey in 1956, pursued a nursing degree, and became a licensed practical nurse, working at Fitkin Hospital, now Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center, in Neptune, New Jersey. Dorcas was also a steadfast volunteer with the Sunday Breakfast Mission in Middletown, Delaware, as well as the Columbiettes. She enjoyed sewing, listening to music, and dancing.

Dorcas is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Thomas D. Everette; her son, Edward Craig Jackson of Springfield, Virginia; her stepson, E.T. LaBarre Everette of New Castle, Delaware; and her stepdaughter, Robbin L. Sheffield and her husband, Michael, of Bear, Delaware. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Erica Brisbon and her husband, Justin, of Huntsville, Alabama; Cyle Jackson of New Brunswick, New Jersey; and her step grandson, Zachary Sheffield and his wife, Katie, of North East, Maryland; as well as her great-grandson, Justin Brisbon of Huntsville, Alabama, and her great-granddaughter, Ciana Robinson Jackson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In addition to her parents, Dorcas preceded in death by her siblings, James W. Wellman Jr., Ethel W. Bryant, and Ruth Naomi Muchison; her brother-in-law, Norman N. Poole; her aunts, Estella Mells and Lillie Mae Watts; her daughter-in-law, Pearl Jackson; and her grandson, CJ Jackson.

She also leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Rose W. Poole of Seaford, Delaware, and her brother, Thomas J. “Robbie” Wellman of Brunswick, Georgia.

She is also survived by her nieces, Cassandra Dallas of Brunswick, Georgia; Kathey Fuller of Jacksonville, Florida; and Yolanda Verrett and her husband, Terrence, of Atlanta, Georgia; and by her nephews, Bruce Smith of Jacksonville, Florida; Ronald Muchison and his wife, Deborah, of Waynesville, Georgia; Carl Muchison and Michael Muchison, both of Brunswick, Georgia; Rodney Wellman of Wilmington, Delaware; Thomas Wellman and his wife, Jane, of Lago Vista, Texas; and Terrance Wellman and his wife, Eva, of Bear, Delaware.

Additional survivors include her first cousin, Carolyn Williams of Miami, Florida, along with a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at St. Joseph Parish, 371 E. Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral Mass will begin at 11 am.  Interment in Brunswick, Georgia will occur on a later date.  Repast will be held at the Legacy Odessa National Clubhouse located at 511 Stonehaven Drive, Townsend DE 19734 from 1 pm to 3 pm.
