Dorothy Dennis Smith

Dorothy Dennis Smith, age 97, of Rahway, New Jersey, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024.
Born in Englewood, New Jersey on March 18, 1927, Dot was the daughter of the late Chester and Blanche Dennis. After graduation from Leonia High School, Dorothy proudly began her career as an administrative assistant for Dupont Company in New York City and Exxon Mobil Corporation in Bayonne, New Jersey.
In addition to her parents, and a brother, and sister, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Smith; and daughter, Sharon E. Smith. She is survived by her daughters, Judith Kennedy (Robert) and Susan Overstreet (Barry); grandchildren, Brad Kennedy and Amanda Montgomery; and three great grandchildren, Zoe Kennedy, Silas and Ruby Montgomery.
Dottie enjoyed traveling and entertaining her family and many friends. Tending to her home, gardens and family gave her much pleasure. Volunteering was also important to Dot. She spent countless hours as an in-service volunteer at Rahway Hospital, followed by 20 years of dedicated service to the Menlo Park, NJ Hospice.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the many dedicated professionals at Somerford Memory Care, Newark, Delaware who cared for Dorothy during her time there. Dorothy also received excellent care from Compassionate Care Hospice, Newark, Delaware in her final days.
A committal service will be held for family and friends at 2 pm on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Delaware.
