Douglas Allen “Doug” Twyford

June 8, 1948 - May 27, 2023

Douglas Allen “Doug” Twyford, age 74, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully, at home on Saturday, May 27, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Jackson, MO on June 8, 1948, he was a son of the late George and Margaret (Bordwell) Twyford II. Doug graduated from the old William Penn High School in 1967 and the Hussian College – School of Art in Philadelphia, PA. Self-employed, Doug owned and operated Doug Twyford Graphic Design and was the Wooly-Bully of Karaoke Courage for many New Castle Bars. Doug was a member of New Castle Presbyterian Church and a Scout Leader of Troop 34 for many years. Scouting was one of his favorite passions and was proud of not only his five Eagle Scouts but all of the young men he led. Doug was also a Master Mason of St Johns Lodge #2. In his youth, Doug was an avid traveler having visited many places around the globe on his motorcycle and a traveler pass from his pilot father. Doug and his wife, Linda loved going to the beach at their second home in Oak Orchard. He loved his family, friends, and many pets through the years. A singer, guitar player, artist, model builder, collector of stuff, and knower of everything, Doug was a loving husband, brother, friend, and uncle. As Doug sung to us many times …  Good night Sweetheart well it’s time to go …

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his sister, Susan; and brother, Skip. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; sister, Christine Fagles (Richard) of Middletown; sister-in-law, Susan Eckbold; nieces and nephews; and his unofficial son, David Strawbridge (Claudine).

All services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Douglas’ memory to the New Castle Presbyterian Church, 25 E. 2nd Street, New Castle, DE 19720 or online by clicking here.

  • As you already know Linda, Doug & I go back to the early 70s in art school in Philly.
He would stop by on a regular basis in the last years on his way back from treatments.
We would reminisce and catch up on our situations in life. His attitude towards his difficult
circumstance was admirable. He teased with the nurses and even upgraded his vehicles,
made long term improvements to his home and talked of big things way in the future.
He was a positive optimist and true character.

Linda, I’m sorry for your loss. He was such a great guy. I still talk about how we did Karaoke together. I’ll miss coming over to fix a problem he had on the computers he had. What I wouldn’t give to have one of our conversations one more time.

Rest Easy Doug!! You were one of the good ones.

  • Doug, Kathy Steele, Bill and I had so much fun together in high school! He and Bill played in a band together and lived right behind each other in Penn Acres. They were in Doug’s Dad’s garage doing some mischief I am sure when they somehow set the garage on fire. Oh the stories!! Kathy is still my dearest friend. We would have loved to have been able to tell him that we were married. He was a really good friend and we will see you when we get there old friend! Love Billy and Vivian
