Edgar Antonio Bruno

Edgar Antonio Bruno, age 57, of Newark, DE, passed away in the early morning of Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, on June 14, 1968, he was a son of Maria Rodriguez and the late Jose Bruno. He was the oldest son among his siblings. In his youth, he grew up in the town of Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, where his grandfather, Ventura Bruno, had a sugarcane field near his house and was among the first farmers to work in the booming sugar cane industry at the time. There was a sugarcane festival held in his honor. Growing up, Jose Bruno would take Edgar to the sugarcane fields where he would cut some down for him to snack on. As he grew into his adolescence, girls would nickname him “Papi” the boys would call him “cabeza de piedra” (hard-headed). He grew a passion for cars and mechanics by his father who was a mechanic himself and a heavy machinist operator. His father introduced him into the car world, where he would soon dedicate his life to working on cars. Edgar migrated back to the US at 13 years old where he would establish his life in Delaware. Edgar worked at R&K Auto Shop for 19 years alongside owner Mr. Peter. Afterwards he worked as a mechanic at Malik Auto Repair of New Castle for 6 years before getting sick.

In his younger years Edgar loved playing baseball, he would often play alongside his brothers. Rock & Roll was the genre of music he enjoyed and would enjoy music from KISS, Alter Bridge, MEYTAL, Slash, Metallica, and Stryper bands. He enjoyed car racing and spent his free time working on cars, he had a special bond with his 81’ cream Toyota Starlet that he would work on with his brothers as well. He would even get to race that car in his younger years, it would later be stored at the R&K Auto Shop which would later be sold. Edgar also created a bond for technology and phones, he would spend time picking up old phones and jail breaking them to make them better. He would keep his inner child alive by playing his PlayStation 4 where he would play with his nephews and friends. Edgar always enjoyed the hobby of fishing, however, he formed a bigger passion for fishing within the past few years before his passing. Bruno would enjoy fishing and even catch a shark in the waters of Texas.

Edgar was not an animal lover, however his daughters and wife planted the seed of animals within his heart. Within the span of 13 years Edgar would be convinced to have a dog which then led to having three dogs and seven cats who all surrounded him during his last breath. The animals would wait every day for Bruno to sit down on the kitchen table after work with his cup of coffee and tablet, where the animals would then surround him patiently waiting for any scraps of food or the cats would surround him for cuddles and pets. He leaves behind his cats Bella and Nala, who wonder for his presence.

Edgar is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Berta L. Guevara-Crespo; daughters, Keiry Martinez-Guevara and her husband Ricardo Martinez, and Adriana Rivera-Guevara; granddaughter, Elena Martinez-Guevara; mother, Maria Rodriguez; and brothers and sisters. Edgars biggest love of life within the past 3 ½ years was his granddaughter Elena, who was his number one fan. Elena would often be found cuddling in the mornings next to “Pipa” watching his tablet. Edgar is also survived by his siblings, the children he raised, the granddaughter he would call almost every day to just talk. Edgar will be remembered for his seriousness, and ruthless exterior, alongside his inner soft, and sweet interior. Bruno will also be remembered by his church community, Juan 23, Los caballeros de colon, and the students he touched hearts to as a Sunday school teacher alongside his wife Beta. Edgar impacted the community with the rhythm of the beats from the congo’s he would often be seen playing in the church’s choir. Edgar will be remembered for his tunic voice when singing and the jokes he would tell to those who were friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 am until 11 am on Friday, January 16, 2026, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1010 West 4th Street, Wilmington, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
