Edgar F. “Ed” Howell
November 8, 1945 - June 11, 2024
Edgar F. “Ed” Howell, age 78, of Bear, DE, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
Born in the city of Washington DC on November 8, 1945, he was a son of the late Harry and Hazel (O’Neal) Howell and was raised in Bethesda, MD. Ed proudly gave his time and service to the U.S. Navy where he served in Vietnam from 1965 to 1969. He made several career choices, including serving in the Montgomery County police department for 4 years. He moved to North East, MD and began his true love of work, big rig trucking. Ed moved to Delaware in 1986 where he found Madic Trucking and met a lot of his friends; he worked there from 1998 until his retirement in 2008.
Edgar was good at puzzles and word search, and he could add math in his head backwards. He also loved reading and watching his Washington DC sports teams. He enjoyed joking around with others and telling jokes. More than anything, Edgar loved his son.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his sisters, Joann L. Mills and Martha Diskins. He is survived by sister, Audrey Hershenburger; brother, Will VonSleichter; son, Brian Scott Howell with his family, Chantelle and Gwendolyn; and wife of 24 years, Elizabeth Moore. He also leaves behind his stepsons, John (Linc) Struble and Christofer Struble with his wife, Patra; and his cousins from the O’Neil family.
A committal service will begin at 1 pm on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

Ed was my big brother, but I only met him once because we didn’t know each other until later in life when we found out that we were brothers. We were adopted by different families, but enjoyed talking and joking about our lives, and how the paths we took were so different. We both came out wiser for sharing our stories. I will miss you and our talks, brother.
