Edna Elizabeth Sylvester

September 14, 1931 - January 18, 2025

Edna Elizabeth Sylvester, age 93, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of her home on Saturday, January 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Pennsylvania, on September 14, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Pearl (Kimble) Short. Edna moved to Delaware where she met and married Franklin V. Sylvester, Sr., on October 1, 1949. She worked as a housekeeper for Bank of Delaware and PNC.

Edna enjoyed many hobbies that included knitting, sewing, crocheting, plastic canvas, and quilting. She made many hats and scarves for the homeless.

In addition to her parents and husband, Edna was preceded in death by her sister, Clara Fitzgerald; and brothers, Tommy and Benjamin Short. She will be dearly missed by her three children, Franklin Sylvester Jr., Grace Neal (Albert), and Teresa Heaps; grandchildren, Stephanie Steele, Chrissy McCutcheon, Jeremiah and Danniel Heaps, and Franklin Sylvester III; 5 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edna’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.

  • So sorry to hear of Aunt Edna’s passing. Now she can be reunited with dad (her brother) I was glad to see my dad reconnect with his sister I know it felt the world to my father. Aunt Edna would call him faithfully everyday and he made sure he was home to get her call til the day he past. She’ll be truly missed. RIP Aunt Edna
