Elizabeth Anne McCloskey

Elizabeth Anne McCloskey, age 101, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 16, 2021.

Born in Wilmington on September 29, 1920, she was a daughter of the late James D. and Barbara (Regenauer) O’Neill. Elizabeth attended P.S. DuPont High School and dedicated her life to caring for her family as a talented homemaker. In her leisure time, Elizabeth enjoyed collecting dolls and angels. Above all, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren, family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Francis J. McCloskey, Jr.; son, Francis J. McCloskey III.; siblings and their spouses, Marie Wingate (Andy), Mildred Whiteside (Larry), James O’Neill (Mary), Theresa Balascio (Bob) and Charles O’Neill (Betty); and great grandson, Chris. Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth A. Corday; grandchildren, Diane and David (Sue); great granddaughter, Richie; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Monday, December 27, 2021, at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 521 Harmony Street, New Castle, DE 19720, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. The family requests that all in attendance where a face mask, regardless of vaccination status. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elizabeth’s memory to Easter Seals Delaware & Maryland’s Eastern Shore, 61 Corporate Circle, New Castle, DE 19720.

  • Aunt Lib could tell a story better than any human on the planet! Her sharp wit and mischievous sense of humor were always a source of joy and laughter for anyone lucky enough to have known her. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. We are all going to miss her!
