Elizabeth “Betty” Eysaldt
May 9, 1931 - July 12, 2025
Elizabeth “Betty” Eysaldt, age 94, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2025, surrounded by love.
Born on May 9, 1931 in Wilmington, DE, Betty was the beloved daughter of the late Marion P. and Julia V. (Carroll) Cartwright. A proud graduate of A.I. duPont High School of 1949, she went on to build a rich life filled with hard work, community service, creativity, and, most of all, love.
Betty married Carmen J. Eysaldt, and together they shared 71 wonderful years of marriage. Their bond was unshakable—a true example of lasting love and commitment. Betty was the heart of her family and a source of steady strength and grace.
Over the years, Betty worked in various roles—from banking at Wilmington Trust and Peoples Bank. She also served as an account manager for Dominelli Construction. Betty greatest pride came from the ways she gave back. She was deeply involved in her community, serving as a Girl Scout leader and unit chairman; a 4-H sewing teacher who passed on her love of craftsmanship to young learners; a member of the New Century Club in Newark, and a dedicated member of the Women’s Club at St. John the Beloved Church.
She found joy in the simple pleasures of life: summer days at the beach, a good book, and playing Mahjong with friends. She was an exceptionally talented seamstress who used her gifts to create beauty.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carmen; her brothers, Paul, Butch, and Joe Cartwright; and her sisters, Mildred Hayden, Judy Knotts, Patsy Raker, and Maureen Bunge. Her spirit lives on in the family she cherished: her children, Peter J. Eysaldt, and Ann Marie Mera (Tom); her grandchildren, Jennifer Hyatt, and Matthew Vietri; her great-grandchildren, Tyler Jordan, Ashley Jordan, and Andrew Jordan; and her brother, William Cartwright.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church, 907 Milltown Rd, Wilmington, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
Betty lived a life of quiet kindness, deep devotion, and unwavering love for her family and community. She will be missed dearly and remembered always.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s name to Ministry of Caring, 115 E. 14th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801 or online by clicking here.
