Emile John “Sonny” Walther, Jr., age 91, of Townsend, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, January 7, 2024.

Born in Wilmington, DE on April 26, 1932, he was the son of the late Emile John and Edna (Walker) Walther, Sr. Sonny made his career as an Ironworker at the Local 451 for 30 years until his retirement.

A true outdoorsman, Sonny enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed going golfing. Most of all, Sonny loved spending time with his dog, Terra and his family.

In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marian “Jane” Walther, who he was married to for 49 years; son, John Walther; and granddaughter, Samantha Walther. He is survived by his children, Jimmy Walther, Lawrence Walther (Pam), and Barbie Walther; grandchildren, Tammy, Jeanette, Melissa, Larry, Amanda, Joseph, Emily, Anna, Olivia, and John, Jr.; 18 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in St. Georges Cemetery, Kirkwood-St. Georges Road, St. Georges, DE.
