Emma “Sue” Burke Nagg

November 4, 1936 - January 26, 2021

Emma “Sue” Burke Nagg, age 84, of Newark, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, surrounded by her loving family after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Brownsville, PA on November 4, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Sylvester and Emma Broadwater Burke, both of Brownsville, PA. After moving to Newark with her husband, Leslie Nagg, also from Brownsville, PA, Sue spent more than 20 years working for the Christiana School District. She started her career at Christiana High School then transferred to Gauger Middle School. Sue was also a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for over 25 years. She acted as the transportation coordinator for the Road to Recovery program, where she won several awards.

Sue loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest! She treasured being a mother to her 2 children, Darcy and Roak, both of Newark. She took pleasure in traveling, making ceramics and spending time with her family, including her son-in-law, John Burbage. She also adored watching her “granddogs”, 2 miniature schnauzers named Lola and Rosebud.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Leslie Nagg; brothers, Walter, Ralph, Daniel, and Jack Burke; sisters, Anna Mae Gribble, Mary Jane Bennett, Geneive Burke and Thelma Pepper. She is survived by her brother-in-law, James Nagg (Cathy); sisters-in-laws, Bette Nagg and Jackie Nagg, along with many nieces, nephews and good friends.

All services will be held privately.

Any family members or friends who would like to view Sue’s service can live stream the service by clicking here at 10 am on Wednesday, February 3, 2021.

The family would like to thank the Seasons Hospice staff for their kindness and support. A special thanks to Nurse Colleen for her compassion and assistance and Nurse Heather on the hospice unit who always went above the call of duty for making Sue and her family comfortable. The family would also like to thank the hospice unit social worker, Elizabeth, whose warmth, patience and tenderness was much appreciated during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sue’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read’s Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
