Erwin Venten “Jack” Douglas

Erwin Venten “Jack” Douglas, age 94, of Middletown, DE, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024.

Born in Rock Cave, WV on December 4, 1929, he was a son of the late Dana Venten and Ella (Hyre) Douglas. Jack proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He was a foreman at Horace T. Potts where he retired after many years of dedicated service.  During his younger years, he enjoyed bowling.  Jack loved keeping busy and would work on  lawn mowers and cars and building kit cars.  In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Jack was also a member of the American Legion in Newark and the Moose Lodge in Middletown.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Marie (Legates) Douglas; siblings, Nile Douglas, Maxine Phillips, and Jennis Hinkle; stepdaughter, LuAnn McEvoy-Kurt; and first wife, Carmela Douglas.  He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Wilhelm (George) of Middletown, DE; stepchildren, Deborah Durante (Doug) of New Castle, DE, Patrick McEvoy (Sherry) of Vinton, VA, Kent McEvoy (Heidi) of Middletown, DE; step son-in-law, Fred Kurt of New Castle, DE; 6 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.
