Eugene J. Anderson, Sr.

January 17, 1935 - July 28, 2024

Eugene J. Anderson, Sr., aged 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at his home in Middletown, Delaware, surrounded by Kathleen (née Caulfield), the love of his life and wife of 63 years, and their seven loving children.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, on January 17, 1935, he was the son of the late Albert and Lillian (née Cairns) Anderson. Eugene was a member of the St. Thomas More High School Class of 1953 and a Korean War veteran, having proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1957 as a Radioman 2nd Class aboard the USS Goodrich. Prior to retiring to Delaware in 2000, he worked in the Records department of the Maple Shade Police Dept. in Maple Shade, NJ, as a Repair & Retrofit Manager at Northern Telecom (Spectron) in Moorestown, NJ, and as a ticker tape machine manager at Western Union in Camp Springs, MD, where he met his wife.

Eugene was a man of strong Catholic faith and a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Middletown, DE. He had a deep love for people and a special ability to make anyone in his presence feel welcome and appreciated. Eugene loved a good story and could light up a room with his infectious laugh and smile. He enjoyed amateur photography, talking politics, and music of all kinds. His family was his greatest passion, where he cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Eugene will be fondly remembered and lovingly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.

In addition to his parents, Eugene is preceded in death by his sister, Lillian; and brothers, Michael and Albert. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; seven children, Kathleen (Rob), Maureen (Frank), Patricia, Teresa (Jack), Jeanne (Jim), Dianne (John) and James (Courtney); 23 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am, following the visitation, at St. Joseph Parish, 319 East Main Street, Middletown, DE. Interment will be held privately.
