Evva Newnam Assimos McGrath

Evva Newnam Assimos McGrath, age 91, of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021.

Born in Massey, MD on December 24, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Ada (Robinson) Newnam. Evva dedicated her life to her family as a talented homemaker. She could often be found in the kitchen socializing with friends, cooking a delicious meal and was a member of a gourmet cooking club. In her spare time, Evva loved playing bridge or traveling. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Evva was preceded in death by her first husband, siblings, and son, Craig N. Assimos. She is survived by her husband, Ralph McGrath; children, Charles Assimos II of Round Rock, TX and Gary Assimos of Bay Minette, AL; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 pm until 1 pm on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the CDC and Governor of Delaware.

  • I met Evva when her husband Ralph would bring her would bring her to the American Legion/ VFW for Sunday Brunch. Ralph always treated her with tremendous love and respect. Ralph is my super hero! He has buried two wives. He loved Evva unconditionally! Ralph, I can not imagine your pain but know I respect and honor the man with the bushy eyebrows!!! Barbara

  • I was saddened to her of Evva passing. I was introduced to Evva when Ralph was dating her before coming his wife. I was happy for the both of them, that they found love once again. Evva was a very lovely woman with a warm heart for others. She was always smiling. When I lost my husband,Ralph McGrath Jr. Evva was a great comfort to me. She will be missed.
