Florence A. Meloni
June 28, 1941 - September 18, 2025
Florence A. Meloni, age 84, of Townsend, DE, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
Born in Bayonne, NJ on June 28, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Frank Beblo and Sophie (Kolowski) Beblo. Florence was an OR nurse at Memorial Hospital and Christiana Hospital. She then went to work at Limestone Medical Center and finally helped to open and manage Glasgow Medical Center where she retired in 2002.
Those who knew her remember her sassy wit and how you could tell her mood by the look in her eyes. Flo always liked to keep busy and was an avid exerciser. When the kids were young, she did ceramics with her girlfriends and always had a cross-stitch project. Florence loved to travel and go on vacations with her one true love Leon even if it was only a quick trip to the beach for ribs at their favorite place. She was known for her cooking and especially her baking which she passed down to her kids. When she retired, Florence devoted her time to two things dear to her heart, her church and her grandkids. Florence helped take care of her grandchildren when she could and passed down family traditions to them – they can all make the best apple pie around.
In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Rassmussen; and brother, Matthew Beblo. She is survived by her husband, Leon Meloni; brother, Timothy Beblo (Charlotte); children, Christine Helwig (Christopher), Brian Meloni (Lynn), and Suzanne Rodriguez (Marty); grandchildren, Mark Meloni (Maddi), Angela Meloni, Morgan Heniquez (David), Izabella Rodriguez, Aaron Rodriguez, Richard J. Bain, Jr. (Renee), and Matthew Bain (Brooke); and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at St. Joseph Parish, 319 E. Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. Inurnment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Florence’s memory to Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, Delaware 19713 or online by clicking here; or to the Salvation Army Delaware, 400 North Orange Street, Wilmington, DE 19801 or online by clicking here.
