Francis E. “Cuie” McHugh, Jr., age 87, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 22, 2022.

Born in Wilmington, DE on July 24, 1935, he was a son of the late Francis E. and Margaret (Leonard) McHugh, Sr. Cuie was a graduate of St. Peter’s High School. He then proudly served in the United States Army. Cuie spent his career at Dupont Co. as an Instrumental Worker until his retirement.

Deep in his faith, Cuie was a devout, longtime member of St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church. He could often be found tending to his garden or cheering on any of the Philadelphia sports teams. Cuie also enjoyed learning and researching his family genealogy. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, Cuie was preceded in death by his brothers, John McHugh and James McHugh. He is survived by his children, Paula McHugh of New Castle, Michael McHugh of Wilmington, and Victor McHugh of New Castle; siblings, Edward McHugh of Middletown, Margaret Atkins (Medford), Lois McClure, Deborah McHugh, and Janice McHugh, all of New Castle; and grandchildren, Joseph McHugh, Michael Domanski, Jr., and Justin McHugh.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 521 Harmony Street, New Castle, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. Interment will be held at the adjoining St. Peter’s Cemetery.
