Francis J. “Frank” Quirk

Francis J. “Frank” Quirk, age 88, of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021.
Born in Pottsville, PA, on December 10, 1932, he was a son of the late John and Alice (Reddington) Quirk. Frank proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed at General Motors, prior to working for the US Postal Service, where he retired as postmaster of the Bear office after 32 years. Frank was an active member of his community, volunteering as an ambulance driver and fire policeman with the Christiana Fire Co. A devout Catholic, he was a member of Holy Family Parish and Knights of Columbus-St. Michaels Council #4548 as well as a charter member of Ancient Order of Hibernians- Cpl. Bernard McCarren Division II in Newark, DE. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 10. Frank enjoyed visits to his second home in Ocean City, MD, and spending time watching his grandchildren’s sporting events with his daughter.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his sisters, the late Catherine and Mary Quirk; and grandson, Timothy. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean H. (Pothering) Quirk; children, Martin Quirk (Justine) of Rising Sun, MD, JoAnn Quirk of Newark, Matthew Quirk (Sandi) of Newark, Michael Quirk (Kathy) of Bear, and Marc Quirk (Tamara) of Newark; siblings, Joseph Quirk of Pottsville, PA, Alice Scheerer, of Phoenix, AZ, Deacon Jack Quirk of Pottsville, PA, and Robert Quirk, of Fallston, MD; grandchildren, Patrick, Paul, Joshua, Jordan, Megan, Ashley, Thomas, Daniel, Kelly, Ryan, Kylie, and Camryn; and 10 great grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 am to 11:30 am on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Holy Family R.C. Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank’s memory to the Special Olympics, 1133 19th Street NW, 12th Floor, Washington, DC 20036‐3604 or Holy Family Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE 19713.
