Francis P. “Franny” Carden, age 77, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, March 21, 2025.

Born in Wilmington, DE on February 7, 1948, he was a son of the late Preston F. and Mary Jane (Woods) Carden. Franny made his career as an electrical assistant at PSC Electrical.

Franny could often be found cheering on his beloved Philadelphia sports teams. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, playing cards, doing puzzles and drinking coffee. It was rare to find him without a cup of coffee in his hand, day or night. Above all, Franny loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He always looked forward to Sunday dinners with the whole family.

In addition to his parents, Franny was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Carden. He is survived by his children, Francis Carden Jr. of Millsboro and Tracey Muller of Wilmington; siblings, John Shepherd of PA, Preston Carden of Newark, Sarah Mohr (Larry) of Wilmington, and Mary Jane Carden of Newark; grandchildren, Justin Muller (Nikki) and Kylie Coleman Muller; great-granddaughter, Alexa Muller; former wife, Nina Carden; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. Inurnment will be held privately.

  • Franny worked with me at Chrysler and he was a real good guy. We bowled and fished on my boat several times. I have nothing but good memories of him. He loved his kids and was a good family man and friend.
