Franklin D. Montgomery

Franklin D. Montgomery, age 85, of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026.

Born in Ararat, VA on November 1, 1940, he was 1 of 10 children born to the late Hie M. and Sallie L. Montgomery. Franklin relocated from Virginia to Delaware in his late teens. He then dedicated 28 years to General Motors, until his retirement in 1991.

Franklin found joy in life’s simple pleasures and everyday adventures. A lover of cars he took pride in working on them, enjoyed looking at antique cars, and taking scenic road trips. He also liked to press his luck from time to time at the casinos. At home, Franklin enjoyed cooking and preparing meals for his loved ones. His garden was another source of pride and peace for him. Through these passions, Franklin created a life rich with warmth, curiosity and cherished memories.

In addition to his parents, Franklin was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 5 brothers. He is survived by his daughters, Sheila Montgomery and Jennifer Healy; granddaughters, Ashley Montgomery, Sloan Healy, Laine Healy, and Riley Montgomery; four great-grandchildren; brother, Barnard Montgomery; sister, Maxine King; and longtime companion, Julia Van Dyke.
