George H. Benson, age 78, of Townsend, DE, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, on October 4, 1947, he was a son of the late Michael John and Eleanor Patricia (Breen) Benson. George proudly served in the United States Army. He made his career as the vice president of Pace, Inc., a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, until his retirement in 2011.

George loved laughing and making memories with his family. He was a loving “Pa” to his grandchildren whom they all adored. George enjoyed meeting new people and traveling with his beautiful wife Doreen and friends. He was a big fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and watching the games surrounded by his family. He was a good cook and enjoyed seafood and Italian meals. He loved listening to all types of live music and spending time at the beach body surfing, taking walks and people-watching.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Benson. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Doreen (Sisk) Benson; children, Kelly Hagerty (Tom DelGenio), George M. Benson (Amy), and Michael J. Benson (Daniella); siblings, Patricia McCunney, Mary Davis (John), and Maggie Barilotti (Vinnie); and grandchildren, Kyle Hagerty, Jenna Hagerty, Kaitlyn Benson, Lila Benson, and Gia Benson.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 12 noon on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 12 noon. Inurnment will be held privately.
