George W. Seelig III

July 30, 1943 - May 15, 2025

George W. Seelig III, age 81, of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on July 30,1943, he was a son of Margaret (nee Conlin) and George W. Seelig II. A lifelong Delawarean, George was a graduate of both St. Elizabeth’s High School and the University of Delaware. George was also a member of the Air National Guard. Following a 35-year career at the DuPont Company, George was very proud of the 12 years he spent as a bus driver for the Christina School District. He drove autistic children who fondly called him “Mr. George”. George was a devoted Catholic and a member of Holy Family Parish. He volunteered for the St. Vincent de Paul organization, assisting those who needed a helping hand.

George was an avid jogger for nearly 30 years. He loved taking care of his lawn, spending summers at Bethany Beach with his family, rooting for the Phillies and Eagles, and especially rooting for Notre Dame and the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens. Most of all, however, George loved being Pop Pop to his 4 grandchildren. He will be remembered for his hard-working nature and for his unwavering dedication to his family and his Catholic faith.

George was predeceased by his parents and his loving wife, Alfina, whom he will join eternally in heaven. He leaves behind 3 sons, Ken (Colleen), Gary (Sharon) and Keith; grandchildren, Samantha, Kenny, Evan and Maya; a brother, Ed (Felicia); a sister, Debbie Sloniewski (Gene); as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 p.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

  • I remember George from high school days; the small number of boys in those days meant we connected a fair amount through various activities. George struck me as a steady, reliable person. There was a gentle quality about him. My condolences to his brother (my classmate) and to Debbie (who married my neighbor). Rest in peace, George. God has great things in store for you.

  • Ken, Gary, and Keith, We are sorry for your loss.
Remembering George from our DuPont Co days in the 70s. He was a good man. Also had the pleasure of working with your mother for 20 of her 29 years at the UD Library, and she talked about all of your families so proudly. They will be forever in your hearts as you were in theirs.
