Georgette L. Borrelli
October 8, 1944 - January 21, 2024
Georgette L. Borrelli, age 79, of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024.
Born October 8, 1944, Georgette was the first of 10 children of George and Peggy Sterling of Delaware City. She spent her early and teenage years helping to care for her younger brothers and sisters, developing a genuine love of family. She attended high school at Ursuline Academy and talked fondly of her classmates, bus rides, and carpooling with friends from Delaware City and Middletown to schools in Wilmington. After graduation, she lived for a short time in Florida before returning to Delaware City, where she taught classes at St. Paul Church and was employed by Diamond Alkali Company. It was there that she met her husband and the love of her life, Frank E Borrelli, and they soon started her greatest love, their family. As her children grew up, Georgette reentered the job market, working retail sales at Central Furniture and the Lighthouse in Hockessin, and she loved helping her many customers furnish their homes. Georgette loved Christmas and decorating her home for the holidays, gaining knowledge and ideas from volunteering at Winterthur Museum. Georgette was a member of the choir and a Eucharistic minister at her church, St. John the Baptist-Holy Angels in Newark. She was a long-time volunteer at Christiana Care and loved to meet and help visitors and hospital residents at the Glass Box. She was a member of PEO Chapter D and enjoyed working with her PEO sisters on charity and community work. Georgette enjoyed travel and made many friends while traveling internationally with her husband.
Georgette is survived by her husband of 54 years, Frank; her daughter, Beth (Craig) Sims, Matthew (Brooke) Borrelli; three grandchildren, Caelan Sims, Chase Sims, and Maggie Borrelli; brothers William, Robert, Larry, Gregory, Micheal, sister Theresa Johnston and Christina Sterling, many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and is pre-deceased, by her father and mother, George and Peg Sterling, her sister Patti Sterling and brother Ricky Sterling.
In her later years, Georgette faced the challenges of Alzheimer’s, bravely enduring its hardships. The family extends gratitude to the dedicated staff at Christiana Care and Griswald Home Care and the numerous caregivers who provided unwavering home care throughout her journey. Georgette’s love for people and life remains cherished, even as her battle with Alzheimer’s cast a cloud over her vibrant spirit.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 214 Clinton Street, Delaware City, DE. A second visitation will be held from 9 am until 9:45 am on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at St. Paul Parish, 209 Washington Street, Delaware City, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

Dear Frank and family, I’m sending my deepest condolences to you all, as you grieve your sweet Georgette, who I was blessed to know as a member of her P.E.O. Chapter. Georgette was kind and gentle with a humble, caring spirit. She loved her family so, and beamed when she spoke of you all often and of her upbringing in Delaware City. Her smile was contagious, as was her infectious laugh. Sending prayers of comfort at this time. Love, Ann Ashmore
