Georgiana Louise Gilfillan

Born: 9/1/1927
Died: 11/4/2012

On November 4, 2012, Georgiana Louise Gilfillan, age 85, of New Castle, DE, surrounded by her family at home took Mary’s hand and entered Heaven.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, on September 1, 1927, Georgiana was the daughter of the late John Louis French and Helen Devlin French. She was a proud graduate of West Catholic High School in Philadelphia.
A two-time breast cancer survivor, Georgiana lived a healthy, active life for 24 years after her first diagnosis, and welcomed each and every day with which she was blessed. Foremost among her joys were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. As the family archivist and historian, she kept meticulous records of family events and important milestones; she also catalogued all family photos, noting carefully the place and people in each special picture.
Georgiana was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, where she was very active in the parish outreach program. An avid traveler, she and her husband James journeyed all over the world together for many years. Favorite vacations included Alaska and her trip to Rome, where she was deeply honored to have a visitation with the Pope.
In her leisure hours, Georgiana greatly enjoyed reading, completing intricate and beautiful counted cross stitch designs, and visiting with her family and her many friends.
She is survived by the love of her life, her devoted husband of 62 years, James W. Gilfillan; her children, Jay Gilfillan and wife Diane, Kathleen Nagle, Suzanne DelCoglin and husband Richard, Timothy Gilfillan and partner Anne Monahan, and Joseph Gilfillan and partner Jeff LeRock; brother, John French; sister, Helen Snyder and husband Robert; grandchildren, David, Amy, Vincent, Jenny, Nicholas, Lisa, Jason, Phillip, and Katie; nine great grandchildren; and Cindy Gilfillan, mother of Jenny and Jason. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Alfred French, and sister, Beatrice Tyska.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 pm on Friday, November 9th, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where visitation will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor Jeanne Jugan Residence, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713.
