Gerald George “Jerry” Sporay, Jr.
March 13, 1955 - August 2, 2025
Gerald George “Jerry” Sporay, Jr., age 70, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, August 2, 2025.
Born on March 13, 1955, in Wilmington, DE, Jerry lived a life marked by service, skill, and deep familial bonds. In 1974, he enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably until 1977. During his military tenure, he was stationed in Germany as an M551 Sheridan gunner.
Following his military service, Jerry pursued his passion for cooking by graduating from culinary school. He went on to work as a sous chef in both fine dining establishments and local bars. Whether crafting elegant dishes or hearty comfort food, Jerry showed his love through the meals he made for Sporay family gatherings.
Jerry’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his daughter, Megan Sporay; granddaughter, Jaylyn Pearsall; and grandson, Elijah Pearsall. His love extended to his sisters, Diane Brock (Gregory) and Elaine Wollaston (Martin); beloved cousins, Bob and Kim Sporay and Mark Sporay; one nephew and six nieces; as well as countless other family spread between Shenandoah, Pennsylvania and Newark, Delaware.
He was preceded in death by his little brother, William “Billy” Sporay, who most certainly met him on the other side with a warm shot of boilo.
A committal service will begin at 11 am on Thursday, August 14, 2025, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
